Djèlí Clark returns with Ring Shout, a dark fantasy historical novella that gives a supernatural twist to the Ku Klux Klan's reign of terror So far, I’ve absolutely loved everything I have read from this author. Following along with Adrianna’s journey was like routing for my favorite gymnast at the Olympics. I’ve always been a fan of watching gymnastics on TV so reading this series and getting an up close and personal look into the sport was really special. To put it simply, Ria and Kova are pure fire, consuming and explosive and scorching hot. The spicy scenes are hot AF but there is also so much raw emotion behind every moment with these two. Ria and Kova’s love story is raw and messy but also passionate and intense. There were times he acted like an total asshole and his decisions were questionable at best, but it became clear how deeply he cared for Adrianna. Kova is the true definition of an anti-hero. And these books are not short! I don’t think I can pinpoint exactly what it is that had me so captivated but this forbidden age-gap romance about a gymnast and her coach was so addictive I couldn’t put it down. I was so completely consumed by Adrianna and Kova, I pretty much devoured this entire series in just a few days. Wow, this series is absolutely incredible. Now, I don't want to spoil stuff, but I'd like to point out a few of the things I thought were cool about this one.įirst, and most impressive to me, was the way Murphy reconciled the two versions of Harley Quinn. Which is why it shocked the piss out of me that I loved this. Realistically, he's not going to take down the Justice League with fart bombs and hand buzzers. At the end of the day, he's just a dude with a lipstick fetish that fell in a vat of skin-bleaching acid. To me, his mythos is almost out of control at this point. I'm not a huge fan of Joker as this human-yet-somehow-superhuman villain. The gist is that the Joker takes some anti-crazy pills to prove a point, gets sane, and then sets about proving that he could fix Gotham's problems better than Batman.Īnd that was my first reaction, as well, Random Goodreader.
